As soon as my girls had their last jab I took them to the pool to start swimming and then they joined swimming lessons and progressed on to joining Wrexham Swimming club which I am affiliated to as an official. I have been involved with club/officiating for 18 years. I first took a role as a Marshall then progressed up to a J2S and even took coaching for the club due to lack of volunteers. I work close with officials in North and South Wales and have officiated in England when my daughters were taking part in competitions. They have both taken on roles in officiating and travel around giving something back to the sport. I support training courses run in North Wales and mentor people at galas who are just getting involved with the sport. My aim is to bring more youngsters into officiating as they are the future. High lite is when you have my two daughters and myself on deck at Galas and seeing my daughters encouraging people to get involved with the sport. |

My name is Ian Roberts, I live and work in the Wrexham area and have been a member of Wrexham Swimming Club since 2012. As with most club members, I started my journey with Wrexham Swimming Club as a swim parent in 2012 and soon after arriving, I made my way from the spectators gallery and became more involved in supporting my son’s time in the club. This started with a number of volunteer roles including rescue test holder, J1 official, committee member and in addition, I had the honour of being Club Chairman for 4 years. Since 2012, I’ve seen the club continue to grow in many different ways and areas, this cannot be achieved without the support and commitment of all members of the club. |
